Meet Our Ambassadors!

Cody Dateno

Hi there! thumbnail_ImageMy name is Cody Dateno, and I am from Long Island, New York. I am a junior, studying Natural Resources & Environmental Science (NRES), with a concentration in Environmental Quality & Restoration. I chose NRES because of the hands-on experiences, interdisciplinary courses, and the small program benefits at a large, Big-10, institution. I am utterly excited to be a part of the NRES Ambassador Team and offer my experiences to you, as prospective students, parents, or a fellow peers. Whomever you are reading this, NRES is the place to be.

Silenze Esquivel Benjaminimage.jpg

Pura Vida! My name is Silenze and I am a junior in NRES with an emerging challenges concentration with a focus on environmental microbiology. As I grew up in Costa Rica my passion for the environment and natural world increased. I spent a couple of years doing research in the Aime lab on fungi and a semester abroad in Denmark studying microbial resistance to copper in soils. I’m a big proponent of being engaged civically and for young people to use their voices when it comes to environmental issues like climate change. Currently I am excitedly working for the Campus Planning and Sustainability office at Purdue and organizing Green Week and Earth Week. As far as extracurricular activities, I am a Disability Resource Center mentor, a member of the Purdue Student Sustainability Council on the Climate Committee, and have been in the SKY Club since my freshman year. My biggest hobby is hiking. I even took a gap year to thru-hike the 800 mile long Arizona Trail and hike and backpack in southeast Asia before attending Purdue. As a Costa Rican, I try to remind myself to live purely with fun as well as being conscientious of the planet we live in. Hence our motto and form of greeting, Pura Vida.
